Once You've Booked
I'm Coming to a Wedding
So you’ve been to look round, you love it here and you’ve decided that Ashfield is for you and your wedding day. What do you do next?
Firstly, arrange an appointment or give us a call to see if your chosen date(s) are available. You can choose to hold a date with us, free of charge, for a maximum of 7 days.
During this time you will need to book a registrar or church service and get wedding insurance.
You can choose to have a Church wedding or a civil ceremony, if you get married at church you are welcome to use our sitting room to get ready and head to church from here. The civil ceremony cost from us does not
include the registrar fees, you will need to book the registrar directly with Wigan Council online at
www.wigan.gov.uk
Once your wedding ceremony is booked with your church or the registrar, please give us a call and lets get together in person to start the ball rolling.
We’ll arrange a time that is convenient to you both (evening and weekend times are available by appointment) and we can chat through everything over a coffee, or let’s push the boat out and toast your upcoming nuptials with a glass of fizz!
At this appointment we will go through all our terms and conditions (pinky promise we will make it fun). This is your chance to ask all of the questions and feel free to bring a list of all your queries along with you.
Don’t worry if you think some might be daft or pointless, if it’s on your mind, let’s get it clear for you and get excited!
At this appointment we will take a non-refundable deposit of:
• £1000 if your date is over 12 months in advance
• £2000 if your date is within the next 12 months
We can host up to 120 guests for a ceremony and wedding breakfast.
Our evening receptions can host up to 220 and we can use both bars if necessary.
We have 15 guest bedrooms (this includes the Master Bedroom for the couple) which are available to our couples for the night of their wedding.
These are booked with you, as the wedding organisers, not with us directly. When guests check in we ask for a pre-authorisation on a card and then guests can credit drinks to their room and complete the payment in the morning. Couples can pay for their guests' bedrooms in advance if they wish to.
We provide all the catering and drinks for each wedding. We can cater for pretty much any request such as vegan, halal, non alcoholic etc. - you name it we can do it!
On the rare occasions where couples want to use their own caterers, perhaps for Asian or Jewish weddings, we have a price list for this. Just ask us!
No, sorry we do not allow marquees in our grounds.
We are not currently licensed for outdoor ceremonies but it is something we are considering.
Couples are able to use our house however they wish to but as a guide this kind of flow works really well:
Arrival drinks in the bar
Ceremony in our Ceremony Room
Drinks reception in the bar and outside
Wedding Breakfast in our Reception Room
Reception Room turned around for the evening Reception
Library Bar for the evening reception
Yes, we ask that you get wedding insurance before you pay your deposit. Wedding Insurance gives you peace of mind that if anything unexpected happens you are covered. For example, if your dress shop closes or one of your suppliers doesn’t turn up.
Yes! You will effectively come and take over for the day and it will be exclusively yours from 11am.
Couples will be allowed to arrive as early in the morning as they wish to use the Sitting Room to get ready, if there has been a wedding the day before the guests will be having breakfast and after checkout at 11am the venue is exclusively yours. When you are having breakfast the next morning there may be a wedding party using the Sitting Room to get ready, this is the only cross over period for our weddings.
Yes! We have a prep room called the Sitting Room where you can get ready. It is full of sofas, dress hooks, beauty stations, a drinks fridge, Nespresso machine and drinks facilities. You can arrive as early as you like by arrangement and you will clear your things out before the evening reception.
Yes! We have a background music sound system and we will play all the music you need for the day. You can let us have your ceremony music on a device such as an iPod/iPad/laptop that we will plug in and control for you. Alternatively you can let us have your song choices and we will create a playlist on our computer. We have a Spotify account and you can send us a link to your own playlists too.
The music and bar finish at midnight. For any residents staying over we re-open the bar at 12.30 until 1.30am where they will be able to enjoy a residents bar – there will be no cash exchanged after midnight and all drinks will need to be credited to room tabs.
They are not extortionate that’s for sure! As of June 2026 our prices are as follows:

Yes, you are welcome to bring a cheese cake and we will set it all up for you.
No way! There are no hidden costs for anything at Ashfield House.
Yes! We allow confetti thrown at the front door (not in The Grounds, it’s a nightmare to clear up!). There is no charge for this.
You can have as many candles as you like as long as they are in enclosed containers with no naked flame open to the elements. People often use candles down the aisle and up the staircase but please be aware that clothes can easily catch fire if the candles are not low enough in their containers. Any candles we don’t think are safe we will remove.
Fireworks are only permitted on New Year’s Eve and over the bonfire weekend in November. All firework displays must be managed by a professional company to be approved by Ashfield House in advance. Fireworks must be low noise and the display must be finished by 8pm. On New Year's Eve the display may be at midnight instead.
Yes! Our Music Room is a lovely space that can be used for children. Some couples bring toys and bits and bobs for the children, other couples hire soft play companies to turn the room into a full soft play area!
We have 4 highchairs in daily use, plus 4 spare high chairs.
Yes, the Library Bar is much quieter than the main room and guests can chat. The Langtree Bar is also available for guests to sit.
Yes, you do need to cater for all your guests.
Well-behaved dogs are permitted during the day on your wedding day. We don’t allow pets to stay over but we can provide local pet sitting contacts. Any additional cleaning required as a result of the pet visit is chargeable to the event organisers.
We have several size tables. We can seat up to 6 guests, up to 8 guests, up to 10 guests, and up to 12 guests per table. The top table can be any size you like.
Yes of course! When our couples have a band they still use our DJ’s who are experts at playing before the band and keeping the party going after the band finish.
None, all our costs are totally transparent and everything you need to know is in our brochure.
