Trend Report: Gypsophila
With spring firmly moving into Summer there’s one floral trend that shows no sign of slowing.
Gypsophila, or baby’s breath as it has been widely known is a popular flower for a wedding in the Spring and Summer months. Used sparingly, it is cost effective. Known for being delicate and intricate, gypsophila works with any theme and colour scheme for a wedding.
Once upon a time, it was a flower you bunged in with a bunch of carnations to give to your gran. These days, like all good trends, it’s enjoying a renaissance and is loved by couples the world over.
Sarah Crookston from The Rose Boutique, the florist behind these creations said: “I love working with gypsophila. It is so elegant, simple, clean and crisp. It is so versatile.”
These tiny white flowers really pack a punch whether used in small posy vases or arrangements or in one giant fluffy floral cloud. Gypsophila looks great used in wedding hairstyles. Delicately placed within plaits or up dos, or used in more dramatic and ethereal crowns.
For a touch of drama, you can go big or go home with a gypsophila installation like the one over the top table here at Ashfield House. Or why not place around the doorway for a truly stunning welcome to your wedding day?
Your wedding breakfast table centre pieces can go high or low with gypsophila, or why not use one of the uber on-trend floral hoops for this design? Gypsophila works really well with tealights and candles.
As gypsophila is plain in colour and style, it is easy to add in bursts of colour with flowers of the season. Peonies and roses coupled with gypsophila give that traditional English country garden feel to any wedding.
Pair with hessian rope, ribbon and lace for a more rustic feel, place in china cups and saucer for the perfect vintage tea party vibe or partner with metallics for a more grand affair.
All floral arrangements here at Ashfield House have been designed and created by Sarah from The Rose Boutique.
